So continuing in my journey of spending money on a bike I promised myself I wouldn’t spend money on, just picked up a set of 17" wheels. This should allow me to run all the tires from the sport bikes that aren’t made in the stock 18"/21" wheel sizes. I can’t wait to get these mounted with some decent rubber.
Plus I think she’ll look good with a 25% smaller front wheel.

I was really looking at these until I found out you have to do some stuff to legalize the bike. Have you gone through that stuff?

Mine was legal from the factory. Drz-400. There was an off road version and an on road verion. Off road version had slightly higher compression (via a single layer base gasket), hotter cams, and a much better carb. Thankfully all those parts swap over pretty easily between the two so it’s easy to get the off road goodies on the road bike.
There are others too. Klx250 and wr250 from Kawasaki and Yamaha. KTM and huqvarna make some too but they are a little pricey IMO based on how many times the average supermoto gets dropped.

erm wut? no you dont...you buy a dual sport and just swap wheels...
or you buy the only Sm offered FROm the factory (DRZ-400SM) and roll with that

Sorry I was talking about actual motocross dirtbikes on street tires.

the legit race versions yes.
like all race versions, there is a street version.
remember, in ont, you cant plate it unless it was plate-able from factory. so you cant go out and buy a 2-stroke and add lights and what not and then run it on the street

Yeah that was the thing, I didn’t want to do anything drastic because I know Ontario laws are quite restrictive in terms of customizing and I don’t know the specifics.

basicly if it was plated from factory, you are good to go for bikes. we dont even get emissions tested :P
and lets be real, our laws are pretty lax and no one enforced it...unlike, say, japan....

I’ve heard that with cars though there are insurance issues, most of my info is second hand so idk.
